The Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA) is extending support to the KEMRI Wellcome Trust Research Programme in Kilifi, Kenya http://www.kemri-wellcome.org/ .  CARTA’s mandate is to develop and deliver an innovative model for doctoral research in Sub Saharan Africa and strengthen the capacity of participating institutions to conduct and lead internationally competitive research.  It is in line with this objective that CARTA is assisting KEMRI Wellcome Trust Research Programme,  also, a CARTA institution in equipping a new computer teaching room at KEMRI Wellcome Trust Research Programme, Kilifi in order to strengthen the bioinformatics and other information communication technology training in the Research center.  The assistance will be of benefit to CARTA fellows whose research may demand the services of the facility.  Dr Sam Kinyanjui, the CARTA focal point at the KEMRI Wellcome Trust Research Programme, saw the facility as beneficial to CARTA fellows when they conduct their research or are hosted at the facility in a CARTA organized training.  He noted “We anticipate that some CARTA fellows will participate in some of these courses or that we could co-host some course(s) with CARTA.”
