Peter Nyasulu, a CARTA fellow Cohort 1 travelled to New Delhi India from 3 – 5 October 2011 to take part in the 1st Global Forum on Bacterial Infections: Balancing Treatment Access and Antibiotic Resistance.  At the meeting, Peter presented a poster developed with others from the School of Public Health at the University of the Witwatersrand entitled “Changing the landscape of antimicrobial resistance among nosocomial pathogens in South Africa: Systematic review of published literature”.  The poster is herewith attached.  The total cost of participation was borne by CARTA.

A great outcome of the presentation was the acceptance by the “Journal of Experimental and Clinical Medicine” to publish a paper based on the presentation.  The presentation was of enormous interest to those working in antimicrobial resistance area. They expressed interest in undertaking collaborative work with the researchers at the University of the Witwatersrand.  Notably, a Mozambican researcher invited Peter to co-author a paper.  Peter regards his participation in the conference as having been beneficial and productive in that an opportunity for collaborative research was created.
